Gabby begins her drawings by digitally montaging her photographs, transforming, manipulating, and dousing them with colour. The secret, often troubling and typically of a social justice subject matter is buried underneath and woven into the layers of pastel she adds to the printed surface. It remains there, woven into her drawing, manipulated into something beautiful, dynamic, soft and tantalizing.
Gabby's glass art draws inspiration from the Australian landscape wonders. It is a meditative, therapeutic process, contrary to the process she uses with drawings, allowing her to re-calibrate and gain some reprieve from the subject matter she is compelled to tackle.
