Queensland's Largest Open Studios Art Event

Noosa Open Studios Art Trail provides locals and visitors to our beautiful region on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast with the unique chance to visit artists in their private studios over several days in October. Whilst there, visitors can learn about the artists’ creative processes, see their work and perhaps even make an art investment to call their own!

WHAT’S HAPPENING ON INSTAGRAM

As a not for profit community-based organisation,

As a not for profit community-based organisation, we depend on our members and volunteers to help drive and guide us from year to year. Members are the backbone of our event and therefore only members can be a part of the committee, vote at the AGM on key decisions, and of course become a part of Noosa Open Studios.⁣
⁣
Our goal in 2021 is to make Noosa Open Studios a central hub for all things art in Noosa. Last year our website got 16,000 unique visitors and it still gets over 2000 visitors per month. We figure we can make great use of it. So this year's membership includes the promotion of any art-related event, exhibition, or workshop on our website which we will also share on Instagram and Facebook.⁣

Do your children have a curious, adventurous, creative spirit?⁣

This month @moceanart is running a Children's Earth Painting Creative Play Workshop. This is a play-shop for children where they will play a brief fun art therapy game together using special hand-made mud chalk sticks! They will discover where to forage for & how to make their own mud pigments! Mo will guide them through how to prepare the pigments & to paint an awesome artwork to take home!⁣

Happy you; happy me. This is a little motto that @marg.watt loves when it comes to art. She loves to create colourful vibrant pieces that brighten up her day and others. She has recently completed some new work which we thought you might like, maybe for inspiration or maybe to put on your own wall.⁣

@carol_watkins_ceramics has recently created some amazingly unique saggar fired pieces which she has on display at the @butterfactoryartscentre. This process is pretty crazy, we did a little research and found a guy throwing chemicals, sugar, coffee and seaweed into the mix to create some amazing effects.⁣
⁣
Two of Carol's pieces have sold already, however, if you want to see her work it is on display at the⁣
'Friends of the Butter Factory' exhibition until January 10th. Of course, you can also click through to her Insta page and do a little virtual shopping too.

We are super excited to share that @fgroom_artist has just finished a 9m mural on the History Shed at Yandina Historic House. It was inspired by the birds that live in the garden surrounding the house and was made possible thanks to a Gambling Community Grant.

Some of our NOS artists have work featuring in this exhibition, along with this gorgeous piece by Jan Murphy, titled 'Cautious Steps'. This painting reminds us of the changes to our world and reflecting on current times. Taking small but deliberate steps towards our goals allows us to focus on our journey in a positive way.⁣

The exhibition will be on until January 10th 2021.

Jo Cook @jocookartistnoosa certainly has a creativ

Jo Cook @jocookartistnoosa certainly has a creative flare in her soul. If you wonder through her studio you will see painting, sculptures, jewellery, cut outs, frames, books. Many are her own creations some are inspirations she has found along the way. It has a lovely feel about it, plus there is a two doggy support team helping out.⁣

She has recently just finished this piece called ‘Paperbag Prince’. He has a real aloe vera plant for a ‘crown’. She loves him and he will be part of a Christmas market she is involved in at Fish Lane Studio @fishlanestudio in West End on Sat 12 December 2020 9-2pm.

It is rare for most of us to stop and consider where many of the everyday items we use originated. An apple that is grown, harvested and shipped for our convenience. The metal in our cars, phones and buildings, dug up as iron ore, melted and shaped into structures. Over time humans have discovered how to shape the world to suit our needs and desires.⁣
⁣
Yanni van Zijl @yanni_artists_photographer is one of our artist who's mind often looks at things differently. In doing so she creates wonderful meaningful sculptures and images.⁣
⁣
She recently won the Environmental award at Sculpture On The Edge at Spicers in Maleny, held by Arts Connect. This is an outdoor, site specific sculpture prize.⁣
⁣
The work was entitled 'Back from Whence we came' and is was made up of a series of 7 chairs making their way back into the forest from where their journey begun. She spent 10 months coaxing and growing stags, elk horns, moss and the like onto them so they could blend back into their surrounds.

Throughout December, a few of the Noosa Open Studios artists will be a part of the pop up gallery run by local artists in Cooroy. Well known ceramic artist and educator @rowley.drysdale has recently completed a solo exhibition at the @noosaregionalgallery is showing his work at the pop up gallery, alongside @sarahjtherese maker of colourful pots and paintings. Both have been participating artists with Noosa Open Studios for a number of years.⁣
⁣
Also at the pop up you will find work by Gabrielle Jones, an established abstract painter recently arrived to the Sunshine Coast and Gunter Schwarz, Noosa based creator of beautifully crafted chopping boards made from local upcycled timber.⁣
⁣
If you are looking for a hand made gift from a local artist, you know where to find it! The gallery is manned by the participating artists who look forward to seeing you there.⁣

The pop up gallery is at 32 Maple Street, Cooroy. Opening hours until Christmas are Thursdays and Fridays: 10 – 3, Saturdays: 9 - 1 and Sundays: 9 – 12.
